It was really interesting talking to Rich about his lack of agency as a host on CBC Radio... people all over Canada think he's selecting the songs he introduces and either credit or blame him for what they love or hate... but he doesn't get to pick anything. Zero programming input.
He also told me about a lot of dismaying internal CBC pressure to be more like commercial radio and narrow the playlist, sacrifice diversity for familiarity... really scary, gross stuff.
So it's nice to hear of a commercial station doing what might be the exact opposite!
