Don't get me wrong, i think that community (or student) radio is great. The problem is that there is such a thing as too much diversity. I don't want to have to roll the dice every time I turn on the radio. For community radio to work, I have to know what time a show I want to hear is coming on the radio, and listen then. I haven't made the effort to find out the programming schedule for CITR. I don't even have an FM radio tuner at my house.
CKDU was such a huge part of my musical journey, it is almost impossible to overstate its importance. I wouldn't remotely be the same person, and certainly not the same DJ if it weren't for CKDU. Their music library, and to a much greater extent the other DJs at that station introduced me to all manner of electronic music, educated me about creating flow, and about the possibilities of music in general. I have a very long history with community radio.
But I don't want to listen to it most of the time.
