Set list for November 21st at Organix
Here's me proposed set for Friday. This isn't the first time I've built a set using harmonic mixing techniques, but it IS the first time I've really put a lot of effort into it. Each new track that I mix in is a perfect fifth lower or in the same key as the track before it. Also, following Chris's advice I'm going to be playing a much longer portion of each track. Coming from the techno sphere, my aesthetic is to play shorter portions of tracks, and create a more dynamic set, always moving and changing. The best example of this is my Photosynthesis set, where I played almost 30 tracks in 2 hours.
I hope that we'll be able to make a recording of this set. Jeska's laptop is acting up, so I don't know if it will work or not.
Anyway, here goes:
Electrypnose - Make Or Quake (8:09) F#
This track is a killer opener. It's very important to make a good first impression. The majority of the people in the audience don't have any idea who the DJ is, and are either going to get another drink and/or keep dancing, or decide to call it a night. This track has a tough as nails glissando bassline that'll make'em stay, I figure.
Phyx - Spectre (7:43) C#
I knew that I had to play this track for Stephanie, but she said she's not going to be able to make it on Friday. It has hilarious Ghostbusters samples. Humph.
Twisted System - Mad Method (Live Version) (7:46) G#
About half way through this track, SEVERE distorted acid mania kicks in and breaks your head open.
Painkiller Vs Puzzle - Invalid Extension (Painkiller Edit)(7:03) D#
What can I say about this track. I play it like every time I spin at Organix. It's just so damn fun. I'm only planning to play an excerpt of this track to serve as a harmonic bridge between mad method and alien prophecy.
Quadra - Alien Prophecy (Alien Project Rmx) (8:02) A#
It really seems that I love Alien Project remixes. I love the melody in this, and Alien Project just make it sound so good. Buttrock guitars and distorted acid. La la la!
Kindzadza And Kaliflower - Viva Tempo (7:45) A#
This track is on a dark trance compilation (Psy Stories 2), but it doesn't belong there. It is WAY too much fun, with its buzzy bassline and quirky awesome beepy sound. I love it.
Shanti vs Space Cat - Toki Doki (7:03) F
Now here is where I am going to get myself in trouble.
This track is really REALLY pretty, and almost housy- maybe closer to regular trance than psytrance, but... I love it somehow. What's more, it flows REALLY well with the tracks before and after it. I really like how this sounds, I just hope that I don't get shot for playing something so pretty.
Shakta - Lepton Head (Deedrah Remix) (8:16) F
Yes, THAT Lepton Head. Yes THAT Deedrah remix.
This track is 11, going on 12 years old. It is one of my all time favourite goa trance tracks. I had so much success when I played
Cosmosis - Gift of the Gods, I decided to try playing another classic this Friday to see if it goes as well as that track did.
Sick Addiction - Today's Madness (10:32) C
I love how well my favourite track from 1997 goes with my favourite track from 2008. :D When I start producing tracks, I want them to sound like
THIS.
Cpu - Tactical Interface (8:09) G
This track is an older one, although still fun. This is another case of a track acting as a harmonic bridge, although I intend to play it out a bit more.
Multistate - Roberta Sparrow Rmx (8:09) D
Synthetik Chaos - Use With Caution (7:47) A
Two tough tracks to try to whip the crowd into a frenzy, and prepare them for....
Unknown Artist (Dominos Pizza?) - Chicken Techno (Zen0 remix) (2:45) A
OK! This is the world exclusive premier of my remix of
Domino's Techno Chicken song. Note that this is a remix in the old sense- all I did was rearrange the parts of the track into something actually playable. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. At first I thought that the track was just too short (1:46) and the tempo was too slow (132BPM). There are also some problems with counting beats in the original track as well- that's ok, I just added some extra clucking at the start. I am really REALLY looking forward to dropping this at Organix. I want to get a video to put on YouTube.
Menog - Timecodes (7:39) A
Honestly, I chose this track to blend with the Chicken song. It's totally decent, but not as killer as most of the stuff I'm playing on Friday.
Atriohm - Pagan Anestetick (Encephalopaticys Remix) (7:12) E
Now
THIS track on the other hand is dark and hard and spooky and interesting and still melodic, and totally the kind of trance that I'm into.
Beyond - Cave Rave (7:50) E
I'm not sure how I figured out that I NEEDED to play
this track at Between Worlds this summer, but it's become one of my favourites since then. Very close to the begining of the track, it builds and builds and then... tense silence... and then this BOOMBA BOOMBA BOOMBA BOOMBA with the bass, and the echoing around trees and the kicking everybody's ass. It never fails to kick people's ass- at a house party, at a club, in the living room, whereever. But especially the forest. The rest of the track is really good too, but the intro is the best ever. Ahhh... you will be screaming for this one, for SURE.
Gataka - The Mind Twister (Safi Connection Remix) (6:16) E
"This sequence will twist your mind"
This track is fun and killer. Killer fun... hmmm... I like the sounds of that.
Igor Swamp - Kotiintulolonen (5:26) A
Because I had to play at least
one Suomisaundi track. :) I like how Firefox spell check recommends "Uncompromisable" for Suomisaundi. :)
Encore will either be:
Audiosex - A Reiki Mester Megbetegedett s Meghalt (5:29)
This track is TOO MUCH for Organix. I am only going to play this track if people are climbing the walls and DYING for their asses to be kicked. I love it, but it really belongs outside, not in a club.
Electrypnose - Mario Bross (7:36)
This is my backup encore. Everybody loves fucked up videogame sounds and music, right? muahahhaa.
